Our family has accumulated a list of favorite road trip snacks over the years, and today I will be sharing some of them with you!
Whether or not something is “healthy” can be controversial. But I think it is fair to say that the road trip snacks I’ll be listing are generally better options than stopping at most fast food places. However, everyone’s lifestyle and dietary restrictions are different, so please take what suits you, and leave the rest behind.

10 of Our Favorite Healthy Road Trip Snacks
Roasted Chickpeas
My all time favorite of all healthy road trip snacks are roasted Chickpeas! They can be flavored in so many ways and are so, so healthy if you make them yourself! I bake mine in the oven with organic garbanzo beans and olive oil! They are crispy, tasty, fiber-packed, and full of protein! Potato chip addicts will love these!
PB and J Sandwiches
Peanut butter and jelly is a classic and travels pretty well! You can find healthier breads, butters, and jams to make them yourself. It is also more snackable if you use an uncrustable cutting tool. We personally use almond butter because we love it. This is one of our kids’ favorite road trip snacks!
Beef Jerky
Okay, so technically processed meat is classified as a carcinogenic by the WHO, but I personally feel better about eating beef jerky than fast food burgers and fries! There are also some pasture raised, environmentally conscious beef products to choose from nowadays! Beef jerky is just one of those road trip snacks that hits the spot when you need something more savory.
Pasta Salad
This is one of the road trip snacks that takes a bit of preparation prior to leaving, but it travels well in a cooler and is a refreshing treat. It feels like you are eating a fresh meal! Pro-tip: instead of using ice in your cooler, use frozen water bottles!
Protein Shakes
We love pre-mixed protein shakes both at home and for road trips! They are filling and satisfy my sweet tooth, so I don’t feel tempted to stop somewhere for a milkshake. There are so many protein shakes to choose from, some healthier than others. So check the ingredients list and nutrition facts before adding it to your list of road trip snacks!
Seaweed
This superfood is so underrated and are perfect for people who eat out of boredom. You can buy individual packs of seaweed from the grocery store. Seaweed is a great source of iodine, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids! Add it to your list of healthy road trip snacks for sure!
Oat Cookies
These sweet treats are filling and tasty. You can make them at home prior to your trip for a less processed option. You can also adapt them to fit any dietary restrictions. They make breakfast on-the-go easier! My favorite oat cookies are homemade with almond butter, hemp seeds, and organic oats!
Cheese and Crackers
Who doesn’t love cheese and crackers?! These are great road trip snacks for most people! Vegan? Vegan cheese! Gluten-free? Gluten-free crackers! Carb-free? Cauliflower or seed crackers! Carnivore? …. Refer back to “beef jerky”.
Trail Mix
Trail mix is another one of the more versatile healthy road trip snacks. Either buy it pre-mixed, or make it yourself using healthier cereals and sweet treats. I love using organic, whole grain cereal with dark chocolate, almonds, and cranberries!
Yogurt
This is one of the road trip snacks that I prefer to buy premade at the store. I love the Chobani Flips because they are disposable, the toppings are stored separately from the yogurt, and they are delicious. There are also so many other yogurt options to choose from, or you can pack it yourself!
