I developed these ad word family worksheets specifically for my daughter, and they’ve been a total game-changer in our homeschooling routine. If you’re looking for effective early literacy strategies, these printable worksheets are perfect for teaching phonics and making learning feel fun and easy!
Why Start with the -ad Word Family?
When it comes to how to teach kids to read, word families are one of the best early literacy strategies out there! They help kids recognize patterns in words, making reading much more approachable. The ad word family is one of the first groups you should introduce when teaching your child!
I’ve learned through homeschooling that word families are most effective when introduced in a particular order, so be sure to start with the basics, like the ad word family, and build from there. I’ll have another blog post coming soon where I’ll share the best order to introduce word families to your child, so keep an eye out for that!
About the -ad Word Family Worksheets
I developed these worksheets with my daughter in mind, and they’ve become one of our go-to phonics activities. 1. -ad Word Family Puzzle Worksheet
This one’s a favorite! Your child will cut out pieces of the ad word family puzzle and piece together words like “dad,” “mad,” and “sad.” It’s a hands-on, engaging way to reinforce phonics skills. You can add a crafting aspect by gluing the pieces on a board to make a poster! You can also laminate them for reuse.
2. -ad Word Family Missing Letter Sounds Worksheet
In this activity, your child will fill in the missing letters for different ad family words. It’s great for building awareness of how letters come together to form words—a key step in learning how to read!
3. -ad Word Family Word Tracing Worksheet
This worksheet allows kids to trace ad word family words, helping them develop both writing skills and word recognition. It’s a fantastic way to reinforce the Phonics they’re learning.
