Ever since I started implementing a structured morning routine, I have been more productive and less overwhelmed by all the things I need to get done. Today I will be sharing what I personally do each morning to get myself in the zone.
The key to a successful morning is a good night’s sleep the night before. So I will be writing a post soon about my night routine for a good night’s sleep.
My Morning Routine
Wake Up Between 4:30am and 5:00am
Obviously waking up has to be part of a morning routine. My wake up time just is a bit earlier. If I don’t have my alone time in the mornings, I am an irritable monster. I have young kids that are early risers, so I need to wake up even earlier! It can be difficult sometimes, but I usually regret it if I let myself sleep in.
Get Dressed and Ready
After waking up, it is important for me to get away from my bed IMMEDIATELY so I don’t get back under the covers. The first thing I do after waking up is get to the bathroom, brush my teeth, and wash my face. The water and bright light helps wake me up, and by the time I am done, I am less tempted to go to bed. Getting dressed isn’t strictly a part of my morning routine; it depends on my plans. Who doesn’t love a pajama day!?
Make My Bed
This is a MUST. Discipline is developed by practicing it in small ways over time. There is actually a book about it! Making my bed as part of my morning routine helps me feel less chaotic and more put together. The bed is so much more welcoming at night, too!
Hydrate and Move My Body
I drink 16oz of warm water while I do 10 minutes of light stretching and walking around the house. This gets my body going and helps wake me up further. I also like to hydrate before I caffeinate myself. This step is often done whilst listening to a YouTube video or podcast. I only expose myself to happy, positive vibes in the morning! No news reports or anything that will make me grumpy, sad, or anxious. That stuff can wait.
Get My Coffee
I love the ritual of drinking coffee as part of a morning routine! I often rotate between drinking mushroom coffee, mushroom matcha tea, and pour-over coffee. This way I don’t develop a ridiculous tolerance to caffeine (which I am prone to), and I get an array of antioxidants and nutrients throughout the week.
Journal
Journaling is so cliché, but it really is the best way to keep yourself on track through a world of distractions. Writing in a journal helps me remember what is important to me and what kind of headspace I want to be in throughout the day. It is also a way that I express gratitude and plan out my day.
Enjoy The Day!
My kids tend to wake up around the time I finish my morning routine, and then the rest of my day revolves around them. They are only 1 and 4 years old and are home with me full time.
Mornings are so sacred to me and when I don’t have the opportunity to get my day started with my morning rituals, I feel a bit “off”.
If you don’t have a morning routine, I strongly suggest you look into developing one, because it can really influence how you show up for the rest of the day! The days we have on earth are numbered, so we should do the best we can to make the most of them.
